• This is my wordpress website: https://www.journalismadventures.com

I haven’t touched it for 8 months. I want to start publishing stuff again. Problem is, my computer just died on me. I had to reinstall windows and replace the hard drive. I had everything backed up, but I lost all my applications. I don’t even have an FTP application yet.

But I only want to use the wordpress publisher anyway. I log myself in, and my dashboard is completely different than it was before the crash. The only options on the left column are profile and tools. There isn’t even a publish post button! The right column says an error has occurred with the wordpress development blog. maybe they’re related. I dunno.

Please help! It’s important that I publish something ASAP.

  • For a start, you’re using WordPress 2.7.1 – not WordPress 2.0

Secondly, you will probably need to re-upload the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress 2.7.1 to get your blog working again. So you will need access to FTP or some form of file management software.

    OK, thanks,

    I’ll give that a shot.

Your computer crash is 100% unrelated to your problems in WordPress.

If you only see Profile and Tools – it is probably because the user you are logging into is NOT and Administrator. Did you have more than one user logging into this blog? When a Subscriber logs into a WordPress site – he sees exactly what you see – Profile and Tools and cannot publish anything.

But every WordPress site has an Administrator – WordPress will not allow you to delete the last Administrator.

If this is not it, my guess is that your browser is no more compatible with 2.7.1 This happens. Browsers (Explorer, Safari, Firefox) get updated and makes certain things go berzerk in WordPress because WordPress is running in an old version.

    Did you try another browser?
