• I’m trying to set up a static front page and separate blog page using Weaver II theme. The webpage is https://purposefulgift.com/.

I created two separate pages: Welcome and Blog. The Blog page is empty except the title and uses the default template.

In the Reading Settings tab, I have “static page” selected, and I’ve designated the Front page as “Welcome” and the Posts page as “Blog.”

The blog didn’t show up, so I started searching for an answer. One of the instructions I read said to change the permalink settings. I’ve tried Post name. Another said to use Custom Structure and change it to https://purposefulgift.com/blog/%postname%/

Neither of these worked. I can’t get the blog to show anything but “Index of /blog”. How do I get this to work correctly?

  • Send them a copy of your .htaccess file, tell them that this file is not being parsed by the server and could they please check their mod_rewrite settings on your server.

they checked and said mod_rewrite settings are on seem to be set correctly. Basically, no help.

I also just tried to change my Permalink settings to blog.php/%postname%/ (didn’t put in the php before), but that didn’t work either

Then I’m sorry but I wouldn’t trust your hosts as far as I could throw them. The fact that the site works just fine with the default links but not custom permalinks (with a correct .htaccess file) points to only one thing – a problem with mod_rewrite on the server. Have they explained why the server is apparently unable to parse your .htaccess file?

No answer. Just that it is working for my other websites on the same server.

What about this solution (Permalinks without mod_rewrite) on this page, https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Permalinks#Using_only_.25postname.25

Is this a Linux or Windows server?

    Thread Starter mariaelkins

    (@mariaelkins)

    Linux

Then – no. That’s a solution specifically for Windows servers.

On the face of it, there is no reason why your custom permalinks shouldn’t be working – unless there is a server issue. Are you sure that all of your other sites are on the same physical server? Or are they just with the same hosts?

    Thread Starter mariaelkins

    (@mariaelkins)

Don’t know if they’re on the same physical server. I’ll have to contact them again to find out.

    (@mariaelkins)

they say all the sites are on the same physical server

Then I cannot account for your current problems. As far as I can tell, it’s a server issue – not a WordPress one. Everything on your site checks out OK.

ok, thanks! I’ll leave this thread open and will keep trying with my host. Hopefully I’ll be able to add a success story later.
