I am totally new to WP (about 1 hour). Is there a way to set it up so that I can have a static home page (i.e., home.html) with the blog itself on a secondary page? I also want all the pages to be nagivable from the theme that I choose. If there is a way to do this can you point me to some documentation that would describe how to do this?

  • You can install WordPress at the top-level directory and create home.html. If you want this to be the opening page, you might need to revise the names of WordPress files, especially index.php. From home.html you can link to the standard blog links and the index in particular.

One other thing you could do is make your static page index.html in your top-level directory and install WordPress under a directory at the second level, e.g. https://example.org/blog which is pointed at from https://example.org/, i.e. https://example.org/index.html

Thanks so much. I’ll work with what you suggested and see if I can make it fly.

You will find answers to most of your questions in the online manual of Wp – the Codex.

If I’ve read correctly, a home.html has to be created separately. I really like the WP themes, how can I create one with WP?
