Hello. I have the same problem as described in thread ‘homepage 6.1’ but cannot solve it with advise given there.

(here I failed to insert a screenshot, I have an error msg above this line)

on the Reading Settings page from the dashboard, the option where I can select the homepage to be static, has disappeared. I’m just starting to make my first website. When I first came to the Reading Settings page, it was still there. Since then, I have done this:

I have added 3 test pages and deleted the sample pages. I published these pages privately.

I have changed the theme from Twenty Twenty Four to Twenty Twenty Three (then I noticed the disappearance of the static home page option) , then changed it back to Twenty Twenty Four again.

That’s all, as far as I’m aware of.

I hope someone can help. Thanks!

There is your problem: you need a PUBLICLY PUBLISHED page.

OK thanks! So, I want to try if that works, but I’m not ready to publish publicly; can I UN-publish publicly that page as soon as I’ve changed this setting?

    Yes.

Yes, that worked… but now I can’t find how to undo the public publishing.

It seems like you’re encountering an issue with the disappearance of the static homepage option in WordPress. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

    1. Clear Browser Cache: Sometimes, issues like this can be caused by cached data in your browser. Try clearing your browser cache and then revisiting the Reading Settings page.
    2. Check User Permissions: Ensure that your user account has the necessary permissions to modify reading settings. If you are not an administrator, you might not have the required privileges.
    3. Theme Compatibility: The issue occurred after changing the theme. It’s possible that the new theme might not be fully compatible or may have a different approach to setting a static homepage. Check the theme documentation or support forums for any specific instructions regarding homepage settings.
    4. Plugin Conflict: Disable all plugins and see if the static homepage option reappears. If it does, then the issue might be caused by a conflicting plugin. Re-enable the plugins one by one to identify the problematic one. I was facing the same issue at Mtmis and i clear the browser the Clear Browser Cache and issue is solved.

…but now I can’t find how to undo the public publishing.

Click the PUBLIC link/text next to VISIBILITY in the Page’s settings.
