Static text in sidebar on homepage only ?

I have some text in my sidebar that I would only like displayed on the home page, this can be accomplished with the K2 theme for wordpress using the sidebar manager, but I’m not using K2 on this site.

any suggestions ?

Maybe I can create two sidebars? and call sidebar2 from my home page(index.php) and continue to call the original sidebar from my subpages and posts (page.php & single.php)

or i can write a conditional statement in the original sidebar that looks to see if your at the homepage or not…iunno i feel like this can be easily done, i’m just not thinking clear today.

btw..the text that im displaying is actual text i enbedded into sidebar.php and not a widget, although i could put it into a widget if its easier.
