Stationary background, scrolling container?

I would like to edit the Thematic framework/theme so that my blog has the following format:
The back ground image to the left and right side of the main container does not move and you scroll down the length of the container.
These 2 sites are a great example:

Is there a plugin that can do this?If not, how can I modify the theme to do this?
