    Good morning,

We use 3 differents tools for our stats (excluding our own visits).

It is normal to have differences between the results of these tools.

However, we wonder because the difference is huge with Burst.

Indeed, Burst counts around 3 times fewer visits than the other statistical tools used.

Do you think this is normal because the difference is huge?

    Thanks

  • Hi @zepolo,

The first thing that comes to mind is that the Burst script on your website might be influenced by caching, causing less data to be displayed, but there are other variables that might be related as well (consent tools, location of the script etc).

If you provide an URL to your website where Burst is enabled, we can also have a closer look to check whether tracking is functioning correctly on this environment.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Normally the plugin code is placed automatically during installation. We don’t have control for that.

We had set the settings to (tracking with cookies and without turbo mode etc.) to facilitate tracking.

We also put the plugin script in cache exception (swift performance pro).

    XXXX/plugins/burst-statistics/(.*).js

We have enable BURST on 4 websites. Here is one: technogps.com

    Hi @zepolo,

I’ve done a quick verification and it seems that the initial hit is being tracked, but that no further updates are performed. The cause appears to be due to various console errors (unrelated to Burst) that are being logged on this website.

Burst will update when switching between tabs, but that doesn’t seem to happen in this case, which in turn causes the time_on_page to be much lower than expected. This results in more pageviews being categorized as a bounce (time_on_page larger than 5 seconds or 2 pageviews = no bounce) and therefore excluded from the Statistics dashboard.

To confirm the above, could you share the “time per session” and the “time on page” in the Today block?

    Hi @zepolo,

Can you compare the total pageviews + bounces in Burst to your other statistics tools and let me know the differences?

I’m assuming there was something wrong with tracking. This morning I checked your website. Burst would not send updates which are needed to determine if the visitor bounced. I checked again just now, and updating seems to work fine. Have you changed anything in the past few hours?

I suspect tracking on your website is very inconsistent because of all the errors you have in your console. I would suggest you fix all the console errors. If that does not solve the issues, please let us know.

    Kind regards,
    Hessel

    no I haven’t changed anything.

I just reactivated this plugin: WP Content Copy Protection & No Right Click (Premium)

Compared to other stats tools, it’s 3 times more visits etc.. Erros scripts are due to ads.

What update are you talking about?

    Hi @zepolo,

But did you also compare the amount of bounces or the bounce rate?

When a page is viewed, Burst sends an initial request to the Burst endpoint. When the page is left, Burst sends an update request with time on page information. The updates didn’t come through on my tests this morning. Probably causing the bounce rate to be really high. All the data in the Burst Dashboard is shown without bounces, so I think that is why there are less visits.

All pageviews within a session are not a bounce when a user
    – visits two or more pages
    – visits only one page for more than 5 seconds

So when the time on page is not updated, the bounce and the pageviews will be low compared to other plugins.

    Kind regards,
    Hessel
