Every orders first status is set to PENDING PAYMENT
and then it moves to other statuses based on the payment. It is not possible to trigger an automation based on this status.
In order to trigger an automation, an order status transition is a must and with this status, there’s no transition involved, hence the automation doesn’t trigger.
However, we also have an event called ORDER STATUS PENDING which triggers on a periodic basis automatically and checks for the orders whose payment is not complete. You can use this to send the emails to your customer suggesting them to complete the payment.
