• Events Manager is great plugin. Highly customizable, solid, just works great. I’ve used it for many years.

However, v6.0 introduced many breaking changes for existing installations. Just scan the support forum to see some the issues. I think many installations just went back to a pre-6.0 release. We did.

My biggest disappointment: it appears v6.0 had little or no beta testing for existing installations. If the developer had done just a bit of testing with existing users, they would have realized these significant issues before the release. This version just wasn’t ready. The developer then had to provide update fixes to try to allow existing users to “turn off” the new features/functions/formatting, etc. I suggest a more gradual approach (multiple step releases) would have been better to introduce these changes.

Developers have been mostly silent the last few days. I hope they issue a pinned statement on the support forum on the current status and how they are addressing these issues.

    Hi Henning,

Firstly, thanks for the 5* regardless of your issues ??

I appreciate that the update came as a shock. It’s a big update and makes huge changes to our UI, which made it quite trickly to make into a seamless update.

I’ve written a post about the update (and why the perception of lack of testing, whilst understandable, is untrue) that covers all of this plus some more insight, and a link to a migration guide here – https://wp-events-plugin.com/blog/2022/08/11/about-those-new-updates/

I hope you can get up and running with 6.0 soon and enjoy all the benefits of the new features that are already starting to roll out.

Now with 6.1 we’re doubling back to help as many people as possible with the transition. If you’re still one of those do get in touch via the support forums.

@netweblogic thank you for your response. I still think EM is a great plugin and worthy of at least 5 stars. I now better understand the thinking behind the 6.0 release. I’m testing with 6.1 now, using the options to control how much formatting 6.1 will do, and plan to upgrade.

NOTE: I changed the title of my review from “Stay with versions before 6.0” to “Read the docs before upgrading to 6.x.”

    Thank you.
