    When I try to apply the basic sticky post function on a post it gets a weird look; only the title of the post shows besides a shaded or hatched area. Almost seems there should be a picture there?

    It shoudnt look like this, should it?

    Been there..(and so on:)). I′m not an exprt myself but have had some experiences now. My advice for you would be to carry on a while yet with the free, well functioning theme you use, and when you start feeling comfortable and want to be able to do more out of it, look after paid solutions.
