Sticky Post / select custom field plugin
-
This is an alpha release of a sticky post / select custom field plugin for WordPress 1.2. It is tested on my home installation and my site, how it will work elsewhere remains to be seen.
In advanced editing mode, you create a custom field KEY eg ‘sticky’ and give it value 1. In whatever categories that post belongs to, it will behave as a sticky. When you want to unsticky it, delete the custom field for that post.
You can download the plugin here

See the script here

See an example of a sticky post here

Installation involves uploading and activating the plugin and making minor changes to your index.php template.
I am not a coder, I’m an artist, so go easy, I’m not saying it is anything special or that it can’t be improved but maybe it will be useful.
It can be used for quite a lot more than sticky posts – basically any situation where you want to do something with posts with some custom field attribute, where the posts would not normally show on a page because they fall outside the date / number of posts limits. For example, favourite photos, or perhaps, posts that you want to exclude from front-page listing.
