• PLEASE HELP! I’m freaking out here. Since the new upgrade I cannot upload photos and I’m a photographer!!! Noone is answering me on the other post about it so I started a new one. I don’t use wordpress thru anyone so I cannot change permissions.
I also do not know html so please speak plainly as I don’t know what the heck I’m doing on this site and wish it were easier to use.

Can you share your error message?

I know you’re not HTML/Webcode savvy, but remember that while to YOU the error looks the same as someone else, it might not be ??

Be patient with the volunteers and offer us the straight forward explanation as to what happens.

Example: I go in to make a new post and when I try to add a new image, it gives me this error <foo>.

Put up a link to a screenshot if you think that would help.

Also, I don’t understand this part:

I don’t use wordpress thru anyone so I cannot change permissions.

You must host the site somewhere.

Unable to create directory /home/clients/keesephotography.com/public_html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

This is the error that I get anytime I try to upload any photo.
What I meant by the permissions is another post told us to go into the index file and change permission to a 766. I cannot do that. I host thru my website designer CMD, but I do not use a program such as godaddy or anything that would let me change any permissions.

And I’m sorry for the freaking out, but I’m frustrated that there is noone to call about problems. Creative motion design will only let me blog thru wordpress and I wish it wasn’t so because it’s so complicated.

Can you get to your site and the uploads directory with FTP? Any FTP client will let you change file and directory permissions.

No. It isn’t index.php that is the problem. It is the uploads directory, as songdogtech said.

This is about 90% a problem between you and your web host. WordPress has no control over server permissions, so when this problem comes up– and it does, a lot– we just have to explain the permissions issue. You appear to have, or at least believe you have, no control over your own site, which is a problem between you and your host. If you should be calling anyone, its them. And I’m not trying to be rude or harsh, honestly. Its just that if 1) you have no control and 2) they won’t help, it irritates me. Maybe I’m taking it too personally.

By the way, of the CMS’s I’ve seen, and I’ve installed a fair few– some for fun some for profit–, WP gets my vote for most user friendly.

At any rate, your problem is common and should be a relatively simple fix even if you have to get CMD to do it for you.
