Still getting the same spam

  • Hi,

    I have the latest WP, Math captcha, bbPress, Askimet and iThemes security – yet still I am getting hit by spammers, to the point they are crashing MySQL.

    I am considering closing my support forums, but I really don’t want to. Is there anything else I can do? The 100% offer from math captcha was appealing but people seem to be cracking it somehow.

    My suggestion as a bbPpress plugin user: restrict access to your forum to registered users only.

    When it comes to MC effectiveness – it might not be effective if you have PHP errors, vulnerable code etc. You should do a complete review of your code with focus on security.

    Thanks for the prompt response.

    If I restrict access to the forum to registered users only, does that presumably mean people registered on my site? I used to get a large number of clearly-fake people signing up, which is why I turned this option off.

    I have no personal code in place at all on the forums at present, the install is pretty minimal in all. Is there a particular part of code you were expecting may need a review?

    Yes, it gives you more control over what’s happening on your forum.

    I suggest you review ALL your plugin files and ALL your theme files – I don’t think it is forum specific problem, but the general condition of your site.
