Still have white screen after update to 2.3.7

    I manually installed 2.3.7 on the site I’m having trouble with. Still have a white screen. Now there’s a different error message. Site runs PHP 5.6.

    Fatal error: Can’t use method return value in write context in {filepath}/wp-content/plugins/simple-custom-post-order/simple-custom-post-order.php on line 45

    I mentioned yesterday I’d reported this to my webhost. Their support said they don’t see anything server-related, that it appears to be a plugin coding issue.

    I installed 2.3.9 on the three sites that had problems with the earlier versions. They are all now working correctly.
