Still maintained?

Is this plugin still maintained or has it become unnecessary due to other developments? PDF thumbnail generation suddenly started failing mid-project on my site yesterday afternoon and after extensive googling and troubleshooting attempts, this plugin is the only solution that seems to fix the issue. Is there another more recent solution I should use instead, as this hasn’t been updated or tested in 4 years?
