Sorry in advance for the pretty basic question but, unfortunately, it’s not clear to me. When using this plugin is it still necessary to have thumbnails created?

In other words if, when you upload a full image, WordPress is creating 10 (or whatever) thumbnails per the requirements of your theme, is this still necessary with this theme? Or should we be using a plugin like “Stop Generating Image Sizes” to prevent WordPress from generating thumbnails since they are no longer needed and just take up space?

More specifically, what I’m confused about is does this plugin rely only on the full image and crop it to the appropriate size when serving it via the CDN or does it first take the thumbnail that “fits” the required space and then optimize and serve that?

    Thanks.

Hey @jmsil – thanks for your message, I apologize for my slow reply!

ShortPixel Adaptive Images(SPAI) will use as the source image the image defined in SRC. That means, it can use either the original image or the thumbnail that would appear if SPAI wasn’t used.
That means that while using SPAI you can have a reduced number of thumbnails or you could even only use the original image though this may be a bit extreme ??

    Regards,
    Alex
