• Great approach. Compared to Easy TOC (where I came from), obvious advantages. But I am still missing some important features:

    1. Auto-updating the table. If headings change, I don’t like to delete the TOC block, insert it, and set my settings again.

    2. Of course, I`d like to jump to chapters and sections in backend view as well as in the frontend.

    3. All TOC plugins, I know, offer minimization to a clickable icon. Would be great, on both ends, too.

    4. If I choose a numbered list, sub-layers ignore its “parents”. I’d like to have – at least the option – for a classic, hierarchical numbering system, i.e.

    1
    1.1
    1.2
    1.2.1

Perfect if optional, with or without trailing dot.

Anyway, great work already! Keep going!

    Thanks.

    1. it does automatically update. But not dynamically in the Frontend.

    2. would be great. I didn’t get it to work.

    3. yes, but this one is simple. No JavaScript or css is added. So this is off the table for SimpleTOC

    4. yes. This plug-in relies only on the standard css in WordPress. It would only be possible with some more custom code without a standard ordered list.

    Thanks Marc,

you are right. I did another test.

Any changes to headlines are not updated in the TOC. But: the frontend is indeed updated, after reload.

In the backend, I have to re-open the page. This should be improved.

    2. to 4. yes, of course, optional. We have to find someone else ??

Since this in an open source project for everyone please feel free to contribute on GitHub ?? But please understand that the ?Simple“ in SimpleTOC is by design. So keep that in mind when reviewing plugins.

And no, you don’t have to reload the page. There is an update button in the menu of SimpleTOC. Since this plug-in uses server side code it would be a bad idea in my opinion to update the block after every chance of the post.

@wolframhk Since 5.0.21 the SimpleTOC Block should update itself if the past is successfully saved.

    Marc, thanks a lot!

    Very useful update.

Now, of course, I have to save my past as well and add the 5th star to my rating. Your plugin is my new standard!
