With inventory sync enabled and WC set as the system of record, the stock quantity field for products is disabled with an option to “Fetch from Square” (exactly as is described here). After chatting with support it seems like this might be the expected behavior so I wanted to check a couple things:

    1. Is this indeed expected behavior?
    2. If so, what is the rationale? Functionally WC is very much our system of record, and what we sell at POS through Square is a subset of the products we have set up in WC.

    TIA for the help.

  • Hi there @jfleischauer,

Thank you for posting your question here, I’ll try to clear the confusion!

Yes, it is expected indeed. System of Record is supposed to be the source of truth about all product info (such as name, description etc), regardless of inventory.

    > 2. If so, what is the rationale? Functionally WC is very much our system of record, and what we sell at POS through Square is a subset of the products we have set up in WC.

Inventory, in its turn, should be synced both ways regardless of what is the System of Record. So whenever a sale is made in Woo, the stock gets reduced in Square, whenever a sale is made in Square, the stock gets reduced in Woo.

You have to click the Fetch from Square link before you can update the inventory in WC to make sure you have the most up-to-date inventory count from Square first. Once that is done the field will become editable again and when you save the new value it will sync that back to Square.

Please do let me know if you have any further questions about it!

    Cheers!
