Stop case sensitive username?

Usernames in WordPress are case sensitive, but how can this be stopped? It would be great if users can just login, without having to remember if their username is John or john.
I have tries https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/23792?replies=13 but it is not working.
Does anyone know a way to change this?
