• I have a domain with go daddy and have been trying for the last day to install wp. The install process is fairly easy, but when i get to what appears to be the final step i am stopped by an error message in red letters that reads:

    There has been an error with your database. Check your database options and try again

    i only have 1 database and have reviewed it several times but cannot seem to locate the bug – if there even is one.

    I read on another forum that in order to install WP on a go daddy hosted domain, you must have Linux OS..i have windows. I cant imagine no one mentioned that the 3 times i called go daddy tech sup.

    i tried installing a different blog app but got the same message..

    i have hunch this is something that i am overlooking.

    any help is appreciated.

    CTO~

  • Get your money back, then go to Hostgator.

    Keep your domain name you already have, just transfer it to HG.

    I’ve had HG for 2 months now, & love it. The thing that first sold me was the Live Chat, both for sales & Tech. Then they also have a very active forum, with real people that work for HG!

    I’m not selling anything, just saying I’ve been Very Happy with HG, for how easy it was to setup wordpress, I did have 1 small issue, so I went to the HG Tech Chat, & they did the tweaks for me.

    They also have a bunch of video tutorials that are great https://www.hostgator.com/tutorials.shtml look at the videos for wordpress, at the bottom of that link, see how easy it is to setup wordpress (less than 5 min.)

    i had a domain with HG some years back. from what i recall the live chat was somewhat frustrating and appeared to be not really “live”, but an automated virtual deal with someone off shore who was not able to really help. Additionally, i had to call their tech support and the techs were, well – lets just say, less than friendly. but that was about 3 years ago, maybe things have changed. Im not in an immediate rush to get this done. My renewal is in Oct and if i cannot get this resolved by then i may switch, but not to HG.

    I’m not sure If HG has someone offshore, I can tell you it’s real people.

    I needed to block other websites from hotlinking the download files on my site, I was on the HG chat, & they did the edits for my htaccess file, in less than 30 sec., I had overlooked a radio button in my login, to show that specific file in my cpanel. They could have said, don’t bother me, but they actually was a lot of help.

    I’m not knocking daddy, I just thought I would mention HG, cause I’ve been happy (so far ?? ).

    Hope you get your site up.

    Shouldn’t be any issues installing WordPress when using Windows II 7. From what I gather, you’re installing via Hosting Connection and getting this error. Is this correct?

    I agree. Move from godaddy.

    I lost my entire blog because godaddy’s “rollback” for wordpress didn’t work.

    They then wanted to charge me $150 to get my data back.

    I already had a previous backup of my blog so I said “no thanks” and cancelled godaddy.

    ColeOnly – never had any luck installing WordPress on a Godaddy Windows account. Just change to a Linux account and go from there.

    @gd host – yes, to all your questions. i communicated with tech support several times and have tried several different variations of info during the install process. still nothing. On the weekend when i have more time, i will change to Linux and see if that helps. Id prefer NOT to switch domains but have already looked into the possibility. I have been satisfied with godaddy up until this point and recently renewed my domain with them. but the reality is, i need wordpress for this particular project and if i cannot resolve this by the end of the month i may be forced to switch.

    @coleonly

    I understand the need to get this resolved and I’d like to help. If you’d like to change your OS, the instructions for that are located here: https://help.godaddy.com/article/9

    If you feel comfortable, please post the domain name and I can do some research in the meantime. Please make sure not to post any other account sensitive information.

    thanks GD..
    the domain is: steelwheelsonline.com

    @coleonly

    I looked into this and can’t reproduce the issue. I was able to successfully install WordPress to your hosting account, which leads me to believe the error is due to a network issue. You can try a different browser or a different computer. Or, if you’d like, I can do a courtesy install if you tell me what directory you would like it installed to.

    I tried it on Safari and it worked lickidy split – which actually raises some concerns as to why it did not work with IE7..but i think i can handle working on this with my Mac. Thank you for the suggestion, the courtey install offer, but more importantly, thank you for providing a solution.
