Stop pages from automatically adding to Menu

    How do I adjust the theme so that when I add new pages, they aren’t automatically added to the top menu? Also, how can I arrange the order of the items in the top menu?

    I’d like to make a page that will be used as a static homepage, but not be in the top Menu.

    In Appearance -> Menus the option for “Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu” is turned off.
