There is a closed sticky post https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/295008 and wanted to make a comment.

I think this is not users fault. Something has changed on the site and now the forum link on plugins pages point to installation forum instead the plugins forum as it did before.

Perhaps this could be changed to the behavior it had before when forums links on plugin pages pointed to plugins forum instead this one. As users follow the link on the WordPress plugins page, them will never see that sticky post.

  • The only issue I see is design/layout: the drop-down menu for the forum selection is at the very, very bottom. Could be situated in more visible real estate.

Or, they could rename the plugin forum into the Nekkid Pictures Corner.

You’re right. But at page header says you’re on ‘WordPress > Support > PluginName’. (It does not say you’re on the Installation forum), This is confusing and most times looking at that you believe you’re at the right forum.

Also, when answering to my plugins questions, I cannot move the post to the correct forum, and I like to answer almost every question or issue about the plugins (and have to do it on the wrong forum).

Some weeks ago, the link on the plugins page had the param ?forum_id=10 on the link to send all users to the correct forum. This would prevent users posting plugin questions here.

I reported this site issue and seems it is being solved now. I just suggest that links have to send user to the correct forum, if not, it’s normal to expect postings on the wrong forum as normally users follow the link on the WordPress plugin page.

That would explain why there have been so many here lately. There’ve always been a few misplaced posts, or those few posters who like to make the same basic post in several categories, but the plugin posts here have been really common more recently.

my installs all go where they should?

    Probably – hopefully.

Txanny was merely observing that by default new topics on plugins are posted in the Installs forum; I merely observed that that’s mainly because the drop-down menu to select the appropriate forum is practically hidden – which can be solved by putting it waaaaaaaay on top, above the text area field for the topic text itself, so that people are made aware of it.

And, of course, setting the default selection to “plugins” would also help, but hey, I’m no coder so what do I know about these intertubes.

Looks like this is setup properly now. If I:
    -Go to Extend
    -Click on Plugins
    -Select any plugin
-Click on “Write a new topic” in the bottom-right corner.

The default option is now “Plugins and Hacks” as it should be.

Maybe a few more plugins posts will make it where they should now. ??

Not so fast. Follow me in this example:

Suppose I’m looking at a plugin’s information page. Let’s just take a popular one as an example.

There, I click on the “See what others are saying…” link, because I have a question in mind, and want to check whether it’s been addressed in the forum, or not.

So, I look at the list of forum topics related to that plugin, and then decide that it’s not there, so I click the big fat “Add New ?” link on the top (or simply start typing away in the form located at the bottom).

As you’ll see, the new post has “Installation” preselected as its destination forum, in the drop-down, located at the bottom of the window. And voilà, another post in the wrong forum is on its merry way…

I bet this is where an awful lot of the erroneously posted topics come from.

It’s just so easy as some site developer add ?forum_id=10 to the link, and all posts coming from plugins pages will go to the plugins & hacks forum by default.

This selector was before in plugins and themes, but lately it disappeared. I think is because of that plugin posts come to this forum, as now it is the default.

Of course, it’s recommended to add the ?forum_id=10 part to anyone who want to link to a plugin tag.

This has been solved. Now should work as expected ??
