Last week, I added the Google Site Kit plugin to my WordPress site, and enabled both Google Analytics and Tag Manager. Then, data stopped flowing for Google Analytics. I checked all the settings and everything looked fine. I disabled Tag Manager in Site Kit, and Analytics started working again.

Any ideas why Tag Manager blocked analytics from working, and how I can get both working nicely in Site Kit?

Many thanks for sharing @jmartenspdx, greatly appreciated! From reviewing the screenshots you provided you don’t have a Universal Analytics tag placed via Tag Manager which is firing on all page visits, only on a dev and production trigger. While I’m not familar with these triggers this is likely the cause of your tags not firing for regular visitors.

I’ve also been able to recreate the same experience, when selecting the same Google Analytics property within Site Kit (example).

In order to ensure your Universal Analytics tags are firing for all visitors you have the following options:

    1. You can change your triggers within Tag Manager to ensure that all page visits are tracked (as you have with your GA4 tag)
    2. You can remove the Universal Tags within Tag Manager, and instead allow Site Kit to place your Universal Analytics tags.
    3. You can select a different Universal Analytics property, or create a new one, as opposed to selecting the same one which you have added via Tag Manager.

Any of the above will ensure your UA tracking snippet is tracked as expected.

Once you’ve applied any of the changes suggested above let me know if you’d like me to check your setup once more, to confirm both a UA and GA4 snippet are being tracked!

@jmartenspdx Just following up with you to check whether you’ve successfully be able to apply any of the above suggestions? If so I’m happy to check your site once more, to ensure both a UA and GA4 property are firing for all page visits.

Thank you for following up and asking! I’ve been really pleased/impressed with how responsive and helpful you’ve been.

That said, I’ve continued to be confused and I’ve gotten frustrated and given up. It appears I have data going into the GA4 property for everything June 5th and forward, and I can go back to the UA property for anything before May 31st. Not ideal, but at least I am not blind.

Thank you again for all the help you have offered!

No problem, sorry to hear of the confusion. If you do wish to give it another go feel free to reach out.

Best of luck with your site.
