Stopped working with WP 3.5.2

  • sometime in the last couple of months (my client doesn’t use photodropper regularly), photodropper has stopped working in wordpress 3.5.2.

    the javascript console error i’m getting when i click the photodropper icon in my wordpress post editor is:
    TypeError: wp.Backbone is undefined

    at location:

    when i click the balloon icon, these errors register and nothing else happens.

    troubleshooting i’ve done:

      upgraded the plugin (was 2.1, now is 2.2)
      deactivated all other plugins (error persists)
      installed photodropper in other old-version wordpress sites (error occurs there as well)
      registered and enqueued backbone.js manually from CDN (no change)
      googled it (can’t find any recent posts related to stated-compatible-version problems)
