After updating to the latest version wordpress 5.8 which is now widgets block based. Widget Logic (awesome plugin) stopped working. No box to add if statements.

  • I’m hoping the plugin author will update this as well. Luv this plugin! It seems the widgets are appearing in their correct places it’s just that for new ones you cannot add the Widget Logic Conditional. Hopefully, this will be added back in!

Any input from the author would be super!

Has anyone figured out a way to revert from the WP 5.8 Widget Blocks? Or to get Widget Logic plugin to work with the new 5.8 blocks?

I’m quite disappointed that I can’t even adjust the existing logic that this plugin has implemented.

@garconis I have not yet. I think there might be another ‘conditional’ plugin that might work tho there has to be.. maybe check these out.

    https://webgilde.com/en/4-plugins-to-add-conditions-to-blocks-in-wordpress/ and

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/conditional-widgets/

The bummer part is you would have to redo all of your widgets but if these work with blocks… might work..?

I assume we could still make adjustments to the existing logic that Widget Logic has implemented, by adjusting code within the site’s database, but I haven’t looked to see where the plugin stores its logic per widget yet.

But yes, I may need to go into the DB and manually remove this plugin’s code (per widget), then implement some other plugin instead. Though, when I checked a couple years ago, none were quite as useful as this one. ??

Edit: it looks like one of the plugins you linked to, is having the same issue. It only works on the “Classic” widgets. Apparently there is this plugin we can install for now, which will bring the Widgets back to the “Classic” view… which should then theoretically let us still use this Widget Logics plugin.

@garconis Wow ok Uggg I hate using plugins to make plugins work but if it helps for now that is ok … I guess lol!

    … totally agree!

I just installed the Classic Widgets plugin and they show as to prior 5.8. So, no recreating all those widgets. Still using Widget Logic until (hopefully) the dev upgrades it.

@tintalent Thank you for posting the update!! That will help a ton!

So, with Classic Widgets plugin the interface goes back to how it looked before then also? Will try it on a local site.

    Thank you!

I recently had an issue with Classic Widgets. It got some kind of error (I wish I would have taken a screen grab of the error message) and I could not log into the admin area. I logged in via FTP and deleted the plugin, then all was good.
