• Works with WP 3.8.1

It’s very similar to Capability Manager Enhanced, which I have also been testing out. CME, adds submenus to the Dashboard menus “tools” and “settings”, while WPF-URE adds a new top level menu “roles”. I prefer the latter approach, though I can see others preferring to have fewer top level menus. Another difference is that CME adds negative or blocking capabilities to capability selection, whereas WPF-URE just has boxes to be ticked if the capability is added to the role (and left unticked if not added). All I need is the latter approach.

The biggest plus for me is that WPF-URE’s layout of its ‘edit role’ and ‘add new role’ pages is better. It uses more headings to group the various types of capabilities, and groups them in a logical, practical and helpful way.

Both do the job, so it comes down to personal preferences. I’m going to use it a while longer to make sure it’s a keeper and then donate.
