Strange behaviour for sticky posts

  • I am trying to create a ‘Latest news’ grid for my home page. It should contain three posts from the News category – any sticky posts plus the most recent posts to make three in total.

    My block has 3 columns, Post types of News, posts per page of 3, Ignore sticky posts off.

    I have 8 posts in the News category, one of which is sticky (https://emma.kokomo.band/news/brigit-phillipson-visit-to-bucks-new-university/). My expectation is that I get a grid of three – the sticky post plus the two most recent other posts.

    In post-edit mode, I see 4 posts – the sticky one , plus 3 more.

    In view mode, I see the 3 most recent posts – NOT the sticky one.

    Strange that these are different, and frustrating that neither is doing what I need!
