    WORDPRESS ISSUE
    —————
I am an experienced server admin and webmaster but this is my first installation of WordPress. So, I am a newbie when it comes to WP and blogs in general.

I have read all the other posts about “Strange Characters” showing up in post body text. My issue is slightly different and not resolved by other post suggestions.

What I am experiencing is whether I type a post directly into the Rich Text form interface directly or paste text into the form from notepad I get the following weird characters after periods.

Examples: (end of sentence and beginning of new one are shown:

communities.? Although SHOULD BE: communities. Although

issues.? We are SHOULD BE: issues. We are

    ATTEMPTS TO RESOLVE
    ——————-
I have removed and replaced the spaces and periods, changed the codex from UTF-8 to ASCII and back again, All that did was replace each incidence of an ? with a B. Then I had to manually remove the B’s the post form editor.

I have cleared the cache in my browser after each change and still the issue remains. One attempt where I tried to only have a single space after the sentence period seemed to resolve it but now that does not work.

    Thanks – technobia

  • a URL might help…

I do not want to go public with the site yet. Is my description of the problem not adequate?

Can you repeat the problem if you disable the (terrible) wysiwyg editor?

it’s hard for us to investigate what you’re talking about without being able to look at it – some users have developer tools installed on their browsers that might help as well.

if you’re afraid of a link from the forum being an issue, place the url in backticks (the key to the left of the “1” on the top of your keyboard) and no link will be generated.

otherwise, the only other thing i can think of that might help is for you to run the site through the validator and hope that it explains something for you. https://validator.w3.org/

maybe someone else has other ideas…

    I have the same problem…check out https://www.financialfreedumb.com

    If I clear cache, it works…then when I come back…strange chars…

I actually found that when I switch IE to UTF-8 it works fine…But Western-European (Windows) doesn’t…

Is there a way I can tell the browser to select UTF-8 by default?

FYI, in WP settings, I have UTF-8 set as default…maybe somehow Wp-CACHE is ignoring this setting?

    Fixed:

Had to add to header…for some reason charset was not there…

    <meta http-equiv=”Content-Type” content=”text/html; charset=<?php bloginfo(‘charset’); ?>” />
