strange code in the footer

  • helped a friend upgrade wordpress and now there is some strange code in the footer or under the footer.

    WordPress database error Unknown column 'time_modified' in 'order clause' for query SELECT * FROM wp_posts WHERE (post_type = 'page' AND post_status = 'publish') ORDER BY time_modified ASC made by get_pages

    How can I fix this?

    I don’t see a time_modified in wp_posts. Look in your theme’s footer.php and functions.php for any related code and also check for any old plugins or plugin code. Is there something missing from the site’s pages that used to be there? If so, that would be the place to start narrowing it down.

    Any other suggestions?

    Switch to the default theme. Does the problem go away? If so, the problem is your theme. Do this troubleshooting test with your plugins as well.
