    Hello,

I have been using Embed Plus for YouTube for a long while right now and I am very satisfied, but I do have a question. My site is setup as a Progressive Web App and it installs/caches, etc on devices much like an app. Online, the page is just about perfect and especially so on a mobile. The problem I have is when in offline mode.

While I realize the videos can’t be cached to the local device, the gallery at least has the placeholder image for above the fold videos and the page in general still looks fine. The issue is where the main video and directly underneath it, the Subscribe to my channel button. In offline mode, the main video is blank and shows what looks to be a dinosaur and the subscribe to my channel button loses all formatting and creates a large red block.

Obviously, this is not desirable, and I am wondering if anyone can point me to a solution? Thanks in advance.

  • Plugin Author embedplus

As you’ve noticed, our plugin is not compatible (nor would it be) with offline PWAs in general, given YouTube is a streamed service. Too much of the core purpose/functionality of YouTube relies on internet connectivity being available. So that’s why you’d get Chrome’s offline “dinosaur” for the video. As for the subscribe button, it’s styled via CSS so you may want to look into how you’re caching CSS?
