• Hello,

I’ve recently encountered so many problems with wordpress. Every single time I make an edit to the files, the HTML codes gets altered on its own somehow. For example, I’m getting millions of ‘%’ inserted in various lines of my stylesheet, especially into my image links and css properties, thus disrupting the entire coding for my website (https://felldownahole.com). Apart from that, I also get ‘e0a’, ‘pxk’ ‘e0b’ ‘%pa’ etc inserted in various parts of my html files every single time I press update. For example, my line-height property in my stylesheet gets modified to ‘linepxkight’ and my PHP codes are affected as well.

I’ve tried reinstalling wordpress and putting my files back. But I still receive the same error. I’ve even tried uploading a new file on its own and it gets modified too somehow. I’ve never had any of this problem with wordpress ever for the past five years, only now when I’m using your server.

I really don’t know what to do. I had to manually remove strings of codes on my own and this takes me at least a few minutes every single time I edit a file, even if i upload it via ftp too.

I’ve checked for malware and that seems not to be it. So it must be due to something else.

Please advise. Thank you so much.

  • I do not find anything as you describe. Can you take a look at your validation report HERE and tell us in which line you find such characters/ codes?

That’s probably because I cleaned it up already. But i took a few screenshots below.

https://i45.tinypic.com/2exrmmq.png (the ‘r’ in border css property gets changed to ‘2’)
https://i46.tinypic.com/103hhya.png (the ‘r’ in margin is changed to ‘2’)
    https://i45.tinypic.com/aaeu5x.png (comments.navigation property is changed to ‘comme.ts.navigation’)
    https://i48.tinypic.com/e67us9.png (same for this. ‘co-ments’)
https://i48.tinypic.com/2hcm2ci.png (blockquote gets altered to ‘blockq5ote’)

It mostly happens to the files I edit via the template editor. (Stylesheet.css, header.php etc) I’ve tried editing using notepad and uploading but this still happens weirdly.

    Please help.

    You may try these steps:
    1. Deactivate all plugins
    2. Revert to Twenty Eleven theme to see if any theme-specific problems are there.

If this shows that the problem does not exist, activate and deactivate plugins one by one to see if the problem re-appears. This can show you if the problem is caused by any plugin.

If nothing can show the source of the problem, make a backup of your site and re-install WordPress from a freshly downloaded pack.
