• I went to login to the admin area of my self hosted WP website today-and I am greeted with this message:
    “Database Update Required
WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version.
The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.
    Update WordPress Database”

    I suspect I have been hacked-any advice?
    thanks
    Rob
PS-I did update the site a while back to the latest version of WP-

Generally not a hack. That’s what you see when you’ve upgraded the files but not the DB.

Make a backup of your database first ??

Hi-thanks for the info-I did click on “update” and it went right through-seemed to be ok-until I tried to login-I can’t get in and it gives me this error:
“Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_rtl() in /home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxxxxxx.com/wp-includes/general-template.php on line 2102”
    thanks-appreciate your help!
    Rob
PS: I am thinking of just deleting the site and all the files and starting over again

Start with turning off your plugins. Rename the folder to plugins-old

Then manually upgrade the files on your server.

I think this is over my head-I used to be able to find that-now I can’t seem to find it in the file manager. I don’t even see a “themes” folder in there-
    AUGAHHHHHH!

Hi-found the plugin folder-and did as you said-re-named the folder-and-viola! I was immediately taken to the wp admin area! Now I can login normally again-only problem seem to be is that now I can’t seem to install any new plugins-do I have to re-re name the plugin folder now?
    thanks

Don’t rename it, just create a new empty one and install the plugins fresh.

Also have you done this step yet?

Then manually upgrade the files on your server.

Hi, just got back to this-
so-I see that I have 4 file folders associated with “Plugins”.
    plugin-editor.php
    plugin-install.php
    plugins-old.php-the one I modified
    plugins.php

So-you are advising to creat a new folder? Please explain-
Also-I do not know how to manually upgrade the files on my server-
    thanks for the assistance!
    Rob
