• Hi
After adding Zenphoto to my old site I started getting interested in WordPress. So after years of hearing about WordPress I finally installed it to use for my updated site.

Anyway https://www.thestottfamily.co.uk/ is my site and I have an about and contact menu in the first footer area. I am having problems removing the contact us link from the main menu area!
The about page shows Permalink: https://www.thestottfamily.co.uk/ (without any option to edit this) and is correctly not shown in the main menu but the contact page shows Permalink: https://www.thestottfamily.co.uk/contact-us with the option to edit the contact-us part of the URL.

    Any ideas?

    John

  • It looks like you have the About page set as the Home page, so technically, it is being displayed in the main navigation (it will just always be called “Home”). That also explains why you can’t edit the URL.

For getting “Contact Us” out of the main menu, you can use WordPress’ custom menus (Appearance > Menus from the dashboard). The Twenty Ten theme inherently allows for one. Just created a new menu and list all pages except for “Contact Us.” You can also use the plugin called “My Page Order.”

Hopefully that answers your question =)

Only have to try and integrate zenphoto or nextgen gallery but thats for another day.

    Cheers

    No problem!

And when you are ready to tackle it, there is a NextGEN Gallery plugin here. I’m vaguely familiar with that one, and it seems great. The Zenphoto Gallery plugin looks like it may still have some issues, but figure out what works best for you =)

Got a little to excited…I am now trying to add the menu item “ipod dock” as a sub menu of “electronics”. It was working before I changed the setup before. I don’t seem to be able to add the page under electronics.

    Cheers

    seroxatmad,
Have you been using WordPress’ custom menus for everything? Once you have a page for Electronics and a page for iPod Dock, you should be able to add one as a sub for the other in two ways. Let me know if you’ve tried both of these:

    1) On the right side of the screen in “edit page” mode for iPod Dock is the Page Attributes box, which has a dropdown for Parent. Select Electronics in that menu and then Publish/Update the page.

    2) When you’re adding or editing a custom menu (Appearance > Menus), add Electronics and iPod Dock to the same menu with electronics directly above iPod Dock. Then, drag iPod Dock toward the right just a tad until it clicks into a tabbed section.

Either of those methods should work flawlessly, but let me know if you’ve tried both.
