Try to clean your code, there may be some code inserted in your config or index file, also install wordfence security plugin.

what kind of code should I be looking for??
I had the site on a subdomain for months and never had this problem, only had this since moving to the root

It gets more bizarre! Today I got a referal link from a hen night company, assuming this is just going to keep going with random sites appearing as referral links? annoying that it skews your stats
