• Hi, I’ve just had a rash of comments appearing on what looks like every post of my blog.

The username is jaydaniels2007. They don’t show up in the console to delete. I can mark them as spam manually in each comment form and they are deleted, but return as soon as the page is refreshed. Blacklisting doesn’t work – I just get the in-progress indicator.

I’ve googled the user and the identical comments show up on the search page.

I’m guessing you’ve come across this problem before and you know what to do?

And now a new user has appeared: “Model User Disqus Conversation Starter” – I’ve only looked at one page but the comment is identical to one that appeared earlier from the last user.

One anti-malware plugin failed to find the problem. I’ll try another but without any response from Disqus itself I’ll have to delete the plugin and use another commenting solution.

I believed my site security was very good. I have the plugin WP security installed and a huge proportion of security best practices in place. All my plugins are up-to-date. So how did malware via Disqus get onto my site?

Not a word of support. You’d think that a virus that targets your product would be of interest?

Two malware scans have failed to identify the problem. I’ve unistalled the plugin and re-installed from back-ups that rolled me back to version 2.7.5. The virus was still there.

Advice to anyone reading this: I don’t know how the problem happened so I can’t tell anyone how to avoid it – my site was the most secure site I’ve ever had.
