Strange watermark output

I have been using this plugin with great success for many years. We recently changed hosting and migrated the site. For some reason, the watermark action is causing a large area of black that wasn’t happening before. I’m not sure why it would be doing that. Was the plugin recently updated? Is this a bug or is it something that is server dependent?
