Strange white space

I had to edit header.php to remove the following line: <?php wp_list_pages(‘sort_column=menu_order&depth=1&titl e_li=’);?>

I did that but now there a line of white space at the top of the page. I looked but don’t see an extra return on the page. How can I track down and fix this problem?
