“Strip HTML comments?” causes editor to switch to “Classic”

Hey Gabe,

I had editor content switching regularly from “Block” editor back to “Classic” editor, even after successfully hitting the “Convert to blocks” button.

After switching off all plugins and switching them on one by one, Asset CleanUp hit the jackpot. Checking my settings and toggling them off one at a time, it seems I found the setting causing this behaviour:

Settings -> HTML Source CleanUp -> “Remove extra elements from the generated page source”

Toggling “Strip HTML comments?” off fixes the issue for me.

The setting is not high up on my list, so it’s fine for me to leave it off. I thought I let you know, though, in case you want to take a look.
