Structured Data / Microformats needed for Static Pages in Webmaster Tools?

    I know WordPress outputs the correct structured data for posts, thanks to the Ultimate SEO plugin… but when I check in Webmaster Tools we see all the pages of the site missing:

    Missing: author
    Missing: entry-title
    Missing: updated

    repeated across all 200 pages our our site…

    /news/
    /category/…
    /author/…

    and so on…

    How can we tell Google to either ignore these static pages or of course provide the correct information?

    You could add the structured data to all of your theme’s template files, but what is the “correct” information of an archive or other post listing page? There’s potentially a number of authors. You could just grab the data of the latest post in the list so there’s something, but it’s not truly accurate.

    You can get Google to not crawl these pages by adding them to robots.txt, but if there are any links to these pages, Google will complain that it’s not able to access a linked resource due to robots.txt entries. IMO, you’re probably better off providing somewhat erroneous structured data than trying stop Google from accessing them.
