• I do not know why, but when I attempt to login to my admin account for my WP site (self-hosted) my “Dashboard” displays a blank screen. Any suggestions as to what I messed up? The site still displays when accessed, as I said, logging in leads to a blank screen.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Hey jwn4157,

I would try a couple of things:

    1. Disable your plugins. Since you can’t get into the Admin dashbord to do this, get into your site by FTP, or through your site’s cPanel interface, and rename the “plugins” folder inside the wp-content folder to something else. That will disable them. See if you can get in.

    2. In the “wp-content/themes” folder, rename the folder associated with your active theme. See if you can get in.

That will help narrow down your problem to plugins or themes.

You could also try setting WP_DEBUG to true in the wp-config.php file. That might give you an error message in place of a blank screen.

Many thanks, Shawn. I will start with #1, as the one thing I recall doing was trying to update a calendar plug-in before things went kaflooey.

Okay, renamed plugins subfolder to something else and I was able to login and see dashboard. Thanks Shawn!
Not sure of my next step at this point, should I create an empty plugins subfolder?

Next you’ll need to try the plugins one at a time and see which one breaks the site.

Since you suspect the calendar, I would rename the plugins folder back, then delete backup and delete the calendar plugin’s folder. See if the site still loads (you might need to reactive the plugins, I can’t remember for sure).

If it’s broken, then the calendar wasn’t your problem and you’ll have to try the plugins one at a time until you find the culprit.

Thanks! I am fortunate in that I have very few plugins. All this non-profit site needs is a simple calendar and a simple photo gallery plug-in.

Please how do I use the FTP? I can’t access my dashboard even after trying to change the password.

    Am stuck! Help Please!

    Someone….
