• Ok, so I’ve messed up pretty bad it seems. I’m a webdesigner who just did my first wordpress-site ever for a Restaurant in my city. Since I did not have access to their webhost/domain (thetemplepub.se) right away, I built the whole site on my own domain/host’s server (dcoremedia.com).

Today I was gonna move the whole thing over to the new webhost/domain, and everything got all screwed up. As impatient as I am, I didn’t bother to look up and read the “move-wordpress” tutorial, but just first tried and copy the whole wordpress folder from “dcoremedia.com/wordpress” server to “thetemplepub.se/wordpress”, and then I just ran the install.php-thingy again. To my dissapointment when I logged in, nothing was there, it was just like I hade installed a brand new WordPress site.

So, I found the “move wordpress to new server”-tutorial and did as it said. I logged in on dcoremedia.com/wordpress and changed the “nameserver” to “thetemplepub.se/wordpress” and saved. Then I downloaded the whole wordpress-folder and also edited the “wp_config.html” to match the new domain/database. I uploaded everything again to “thetemplepub.se/wordpress”. NOTHING. Same thing, everything was blank and like it was from scratch.

Now, for some reason the passwords got mixed up and this is where I’m at right now. I can’t login to any of the wordpress-accounts, cause both the admin sites jumps back and forth between the servers when trying to loggin, or do anything really. When I request a new password from any of the sites, it jumps back and forth in the sending process, and when I try and click the reset-link that I get emailed to me it just says “Sorry, that key does not appear to be valid.” probably cause it’s trying to get a password from the wrong server.

I even tried and upload an untouched old version of the one I had on dcoremedia.com/wordpress, but even that didn’t work. It stil jumps between servers when I call for different URLs etc.

So, to solve this: Is there ANY way to change the “nameserver” without logging in as an admin? Is the info stored in som file somewhere? This is the only way I can see that I can fix this. Or does anyone have another idea? I’m about to throw my comp. out the window right now and could really need some help!

  • The reason the content didn’t show was because it’s stored in the database, not in the WordPress files you were copying…

It seems you’ve copied and pasted all over the place and as a result the installs are requesting information from one another…

If you have DB access to the website(s) then you should be able to restore things back on your end first.. followed by the other site…

See any one of the many admin login threads…
    https://www.ads-software.com/search/admin+password?forums=1

Get your site working first, then worry about the other, or vice versa..

You could have saved all this hassles by reading the docs and guides in advance… i have to say you shot yourself in the foot with this. ??

Best of luck resolving the problems…

Thanks. Yes I know, totally idiotic of me not to check the documentation first :/

I’ll do some more tinkering and see where it leads.

Oh, what is it that I should do in the database to make things work? (thinking of my old site now)

right now, it’s just a white page when you visit it:

    thanks again
