Stumbleupon Kills Page on iOS / Mobile Safari
-
Great plugin for desktop/laptop users … not so great for anyone using Safari’s mobile browser (installed on millions of iPhones).
Why? If ‘Stumbleupon (any style)’ is enabled, along with all/some/none of the other social network options (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn), (“Slide Out” type) the page will freeze upon the loading of this plugin.
Also, after the plugin does load (minus Stumbleupon), if it overlaps any text/images/objects in the area it is overlapping, watch out — as it *does not* scroll with the user. Basically, the user would have to click around, until they find the ‘share’ button at the top, which, when clicked, will move slightly lower/higher on the screen.
Here’s the deal:
You will see the page entirely load. Once the page content loads, the plugin will then load, which freeze the entire screen and displays nothing but a small ‘Stumbleupon’ icon.
Here’s the kicker:
If you remove Stumbleupon, IT WORKS! Well, what I mean by “works” is that the page doesn’t go blank after loading completely and the Google+ tool doesn’t appear. Other than that, the plugin functions somewhat normally. It is definitely not the same as using Firefox on Mac/PC, that is for sure.
Unfortunately, Stumbleupon was the dealbreaker for choosing this plugin and not interfacing well with iOS / Safari (mobile) is basically unacceptable as iOS 5 approaches.
Please update ASAP.
Also, does anyone know if this is the same deal on iPod Touch and iPad? How about Android devices?
Thanks!
