Style.css

  • I was told never to modify anything in the root of the WordPress directory but that’s where the style.css file is. I modify the style.css file in the root and it has no effect on the mobile site. Should there also be a style.css file in any theme directory as there is a footer.php in any theme directory but one in the root of WordPress as well?

  • style.css should be found in your theme folder, each folder has its own style.css. Try modifying the style.css which is in your theme’s folder and you should see immediate changes.

    there has to be a style.css in every theme – /wp-content/themes/YOURTHEME/style.css

    what are you trying to achieve?

    A Theme without a style.css file will be seen as “broken” by WordPress, and will not be able to be activated. So, whatever Theme you currently have active does have a style.css file.
