I am trying to use WP Job Manager with a ‘premium’ 3rd party theme (Jupiter from Themeforest) but the styling of the jobs list, individual job summaries and the job dashboard in particular look ‘wrong’ compared to a theme such as Twenty Twelve. I’ve listed all the WP Job Manager shortcodes on this page (you need to scroll down a long way to see all problems). Is there any reason why I can’t get the plugin to look the same on Jupiter as it does on Twenty Twelve? Thanks

here’s a link to a pdf comparing how the plugin looks on Jupiter vs. Twenty Twelve. Thanks for your help.

Since CSS cascades, rules in your theme also apply to the output from this plugin. If you wish to change anything, such as padding, fonts etc you can add extra rules inside your theme’s css file.

Saying all that, the output doesn’t look too bad considering – just some font changes. Which problems in particular are you referring to?

Thanks. The typography should be easy to sort out but I think the job dashboard and individual job summaries are most affected. If you look at the pdf I linked to in the second post, you can see that in the individual job summaries, the ‘freelance’ etc buttons are squashed. And in the job dashboard, the borders are lost and the text is venter-aligned. Which css classes should I target to fix these?

As you are asking for css classes to target I’m going to assume you know a bit about css now ?? If you use chrome, or firefox, if you right click the element you should have an option to ‘inspect’ This will not only reveal the classes on the item, but also the applied rules meaning you’ll know what to add your rules for.

    Does that help?

OK thanks, I will use the web inspector to write custom css. Is this necessary for most themes unless they have been built specifically to work with the WP Job Manager plugin? Could styling options be added to the plugin options panel, or is this outside of what you want to offer with this plugin?

Not all themes, but sometimes to correct things like font size and padding. It’s impossible to account for all theme styles from a plugin, thats why its optimised for the default WP themes.

Offering styling options in plugin (IMHO) is unnecessary – appearance should be handled through theme css. Plugins are for functionality.

    Hey Stan68,

We’ve actually just released a plugin that’ll add styling options to WP Job Manager (have a look at https://tinygiantstudios.co.za/store/wp-job-manager-job-styles for more info)…

With that being said, it’s important to note that it won’t fix conflicting styles of your theme,it’ll only add the ability to style individual elements.
