I have a subdirectory site and in the google serp titles it’s pulling the main domain name and attatching to all the serp titles in the sub directory site. Is this normal, and can this be fixed where it will not pull the main domains site (10mag) name.

    Ex.

10 Directory | Insightful Local Living In South Korea – 10Mag

    La Planque | Yongsan-gu, Seoul | 10 Directory – 10Mag

    Thank you!

  • Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch with Yoast.

By default, the SEO title consists of “Page Title + Separator + Site Title”. Google recommends including the site title in all your titles, as it makes it easier for users to recognize the brands/websites. You can freely customize the SEO title, but the default value will be good enough in most cases.

We took a look at the source code of your URLs and found the title does not contain the site’s name. It’s possible that the site’s name is being added even after you customized your settings. Whereas Google typically uses the title and meta description from the metadata for indexing, this is not always the case. Google will sometimes modify the title or description of the URL as it sees fit. This is not due to the plugin not functioning as expected, but rather is due to Google modifying the title it indexes as its algorithm has concluded that there is a better version to index and we have additional information on this here: https://yoast.com/google-page-title/

Please let us know if you have any other questions or need any help.

    Closed. No further questions.
