Sub domain set up

Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure subdomains come first and subdirectories come after

like https://subdomain.domain.com or https://domain.com/subdirectory

How do I get it to read like your second example, https://domain.com/subdomain

I think that has to do with the server. I remember my server telling me that I have the option of using either forms to view my site but I know that other people on different servers sometimes don’t have that option.
