sub-site registration

I’m using a form for registration on sub-sites and using the email address as username. However, if the user is already registered on one of the other sub-sites he gets a message that his email address is already in use. Can someone help me with a way to add existing users to sub-sites? I’m not a coder so please be specific if the fix involves code.
