HI, firstly thanks for the plug in, I can’t believe there is no official support for such an important feature.

Getting back to my issue, I checked the “Automatically add all descendants as submenu items” to a category in the menu, but when I create a child category it doesn’t show up. What am I missing?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there, @carlosvai,

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble, but thanks for reaching out.

Can you tell me more about that? Did you create the child category and you added as a sub-item in the menu, or did you also set up a parent for the new category?
I tried to recreate what you did on my test site, but I’m not sure I got it exactly as you did.

Can you explain how the issue happens, step-by-step? This helps us investigate your issue ??

You can share screenshots too! You can create screenshots using something like Snipboard or Imgur and post the link here.

Thanks in advance for sorting this out with us!

Hi @erania-pinnera thanks for reaching out!

I’ll try to summarize step by step.

    1) I create a menu with category A. I save it and then check both “Automatically add all descendants as submenu items” and also to create top level entries (just in case I tried both ways). Save it again.

    2) I create a category B selecting category A as parent category.

When I go back to the menu and refresh I don’t see the child category placed.

I also tried placing that category B manually and then creating a category C in case it needed a reference or something like that.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi @carlosvai,

Thank you for explaining it step-by-step!

After creating a menu with Category A and saving it, have you clicked on the newly created menu again to enable the “Automatically add all descendants as submenu items” option again?

Re-checking this option, saving the menu again, then assigning the menu location worked for me, on the Twenty Twenty theme:

I hope that helps! Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply @bluejay77, and sorry for the delay.

I think I was mistakenly waiting to see the child items in the admin menu section.

I CAN see the items being populated in the frontend!
So obviously the plug in works perfectly!

I’m not sure if i missed something, but it would be a good idea to clarify that the items are only visible in the front end and not in the dashboard.

Thanks again for the help and congrats for the plug in!

I forgot to say that works with child posts and pages but not with categories ??

    Hello @carlosvai,

I am very glad to hear that issue seems to be solved ??

it would be a good idea to clarify that the items are only visible in the front end and not in the dashboard.

That’s great feedback and definitely something we might want to add in the plugin’s description.

I’ll be marking this thread as solved if you confirm you’re all set now.

To be honest, I can’t make it work with categories.

I tried in different environments, even in a sandbox from scratch, but categories are not being populated.

    Hi again,

In order for the sub-category Archives to show up in the menu, there should be at least one article in the subcategory.

By default, the menu shows the top category in the archive. If the sub-category has no posts, then only the topmost category is shown in the menu. As soon as you add one or more posts to the sub-category, the category sub-menu will start showing up.

I hope this helps; please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.

Thanks a lot for the help!
I was clearly missing something, and that was it.
Thanks @gaurav984 and @erania-pinnera for the patience and guide.

I left a 5 star review, the plug in and the support deserves more tan that, actually.

    Best wishes for you!
