• Hey all,

    General question:

    I have a subdirectory multi-site setup with several individual domains .. i.e.
    abc.com
    def.com
    ghi.com
    … etcetera.

Is it possible to allow one of these domains to have a subdomain? … i.e.
    sub.abc.com
Remember that abc.com is part of a subdirectory multi-site.

Possible? Maybe I’m over thinking. ha.

    Hope that makes sense! Thanks.

  • Yes, just map the subdomain to the subsite after you create it.

You’ll also need to provide a DNS A record for the subdomain and insure the subdomain is dealt with properly in your control panel if your site has one.

Thank you. Curious, do you have a good source (link) to accomplish this?

Since you didn’t mention your web host or provide your site’s domain name where I could look I can’t recommend any host-specific instructions but your web host may provide them.

These instructions should get you through the process…

Ahhh, understood. I use SiteGround and the instructions are definitely available.

I think I was over thinking it. I use a plugin for “mapping” my sub-directory domains on my multi-site…different than the mapping that occurs at the host level.

    Thanks.

I kind of messed up on the link and had to edit my answer… I left you a link to the official somewhat generic WordPress provided instructions there in case you didn’t see them.

    My bad there.

Site Ground has good documentation but the link I sent you combined with SiteGround’s detailed documentation should get you there.

It’s good if you have multiple monitors or a huge monitor where you can have several doc windows open when doing this stuff in another window.
