• based on the multisite information this is not what I want
“If you plan on creating sites that are strongly interconnected, that share data, or share users, then a multisite network might not be the best solution.”

I want subdirectories that share everything, users, forums, etc….

I am looking for one install of wordpress at https://www.example.com with subdirectories such as test.example.com shop.example.com forums.example.com that are all basically the same single install of wordpress at the original https://www.example.com

what is the best way to do this please

    Those are sub-domains.

https://www.mattcutts.com/blog/subdomains-and-subdirectories/ (yes, from 2007, but review the author)

site.com/folder is the url for a subdirectory.

a sub-domain is sub.site.com and needs to generally be setup with your host.

Yes. My bad. I want subdomains that share everything.
Thank you for the link, it was a good read. I think what I want to do is still there.

I can premake the subdirectories and put anything I need to into it.
